A pelvic floor assessment is about 60-minutes in length. This includes a subjective history, an external mobility assessment and an internal pelvic floor assessment. There is not much prep work required by you, other than filling out the required documents ahead of time and wearing comfortable clothing.
-
Being on your period doesnβt affect our pelvic floor assessment and treatment whatsoever. In fact, sometimes itβs preferred that we assess your pelvic floor during menstruation to get an idea of how your muscles are responding. That being said, itβs completely up to your comfort level!

An internal examination is considered to be the gold standard for pelvic floor assessment and treatment, since it is the only way we can truly determine whether your pelvic floor muscles are hypertonic (tight) or hypotonic (weak). However, if an internal is not for you, no worries - pelvic floor therapists have all the tools needed to provide treatment and guidance externally to treat the issues at hand.

We work with children who are showing a delay in achieving their age-appropriate gross motor skills, such as rolling, crawling and walking. I also have extensive experience treating torticollis (tight neck) and plagiocephaly (flat head). Most recently, I have completed specialized training in paediatric pelvic floor conditions, including encopresis, nocturnal enuresis (bed-wetting) and stool withholding.

Many children that require pelvic floor physiotherapy may benefit from a virtual assessment. This is because, unlike adult pelvic floor examinations, paediatric assessments do NOT include an internal portion. If an external assessment of the pelvic floor is required, we would ask the child and their parent or guardian set-up an in-person appointment.

Pelvic floor and paediatric physiotherapy are both covered by extended health benefits. We also direct bill to all major insurance companies to make it a little easier on you :)
